Guitar oriented rock tune. Droning slide riffs combined with layerd chords. The bridge contains a mild rock/rap feel and the ending goes for the climactic finish.

    Story Behind the Song
This tune came from a summer of touring the country with Michelle Malone and the Indigo Girls. Basically we traveled around the country twice between April and August of 2001. The sights and experience will always be with me and my song writing from here on.
Recording of this tune was done at my brother Jeff's home during a visit in August of 2001. The chords for the verse/chorus parts were something that I had been playing around with while on the road. The bridge was somewhat improvised during the recording session. The lyrics were all made up at the session. Recording and mixdown were done in one day.

    Lyrics
    Offer up the notion
That we are here to please
Along the path of the natural extreme
    Start the car up
    And listen to the breeze
Come on and walk with me
    Though the age of luxury
And Oh! The light will surley shine
So go! Keep the party on your mind
    Reach through the dark
    And feel the angelic sea
    Flip over your head
And sink down on your knee
    Storms will come
And the course will surley change
    Lock down the hatch
    I'm sure it's gonna rain
And Oh! Look up at the sky
And Oh! Come on and tell me why
    -bridge-
The summer has grown so hot
The feeling of peace is not
    Something that we can feel
In the daily turn of the wheel
Mash the petal and feel the speed
Of the highway that's calling me
On down the road of desire
Will it really end in fire
Light the smoke, inhale the fumes
Praise the lord and then consume
All of the things tha ya need
In order to spread your seed

It's all written in the history of the world
Anyone who tried this way didn't grow very old
And Oh! Look up at the stars
    They'll tell you where
    All the light has gone
And the river runs to the righteous
And the river runs to the righteous
And the river runs to the righteous sea...
