	Story Behind the Song things fall apart. but rarely at the speed of sound. or in a field on the outskirts of rome. an exercise in extended mixed metaphor built on a very real evening, two very real places, and the nonsensical phrase: 'il grande dipper.' now for the update: vincenzo still sells homemade wine to gullible americans in monte mario, the lighthouse still stands a few blocks away from albion avenue in rogers park. and there's been no encores. Lyrics hey stranger, tell me how this ends: in a field with all your friends, you're on your back from all the wine and overhead the stars arrange themselves in neat arrays to fit my mangled phrase and it's stranger now that you're a friend, when all the things we used to do are riddled through with memories of the lighthouse on the lake and i don't know just what to say when you look at me like you're waiting for the sky to fall like the berlin wall: overnight, defenses down and guards at ease. well chip away some souvenirs of all our yesterdays. no bricks, just ticket stubs from all our one-act plays. the lights are up and now you're heading for the door. no more encores. this is not an intermission.
