    Story Behind the Song
The Storm was a fairly straight-forward track to do, it didn't involve much work at all, really.

I'd wanted to do a track like this since I finished A Presence, I don't know why. I guess it's because I've always loved listening to the sounds of rain, or storms. The sound soothes me, relaxes me. Well, anywho, I knew that I wanted to put something like that on an album, or EP, or atleast as a B-side on a single or something.

There were two stages to creating this track. The first was lugging my humble recording equipment upstairs during a fairly mild storm, and sticking my arm out of the window with a microphone in it. That got me the sounds of the rain. I transferred this onto the computer, and slapped it into a sequence. I couldn't get a very long recording of decent quality rain sounds, so I took what I had and made several layers that faded in and out, on both the left and right channels. The effect is kind of transparent to the listener, but it's there.

Now, all The Storm was at that point was rain. Not very storm-like. Next, I took a library sample of some thunder, tinkered with it a bit, then slapped it into the sequence at various points. So, now we had rain and thunder, next comes the wind. The wind was actually totally artificial, oddly enough. I generated some simple FM synth, then applied various filters and whatnot to make it sound windy. Surprisingly (I didn't think it would turn out okay), it worked quite well.

Slapped that into the mix, made it fade in and pan between channels. That's all there is to it, really.
