Cock-a-doodle-diablo! Sometimes you hear a song and it blows you away -- this probably isn't one of those times. A chord progression with a one-take lead, topped off with some pitch-shifted, layered, slightly off-key vocals. |

Story Behind the Song
In Montgomery, there's a tire shop that, in a fit of misguided marketing, stuck a large fake rooster on its roof. Late one night we drove by -- it's eyes aglow -- and wondered what he might do if a) he were alive and b) no one was looking. Bottom line: We're strange. Written in an hour or two, recorded in a few takes. You'll never be able to tell, though -- WORD!
Lyrics
Standing white against the night
Red eyes all aglow
Big yellow feet, not too discreet
El habla espanol
He walks and stalks our city sidewalks
Looking for souls to plunder
If you dare resist his stare
He'll rip your heart asunder
CHORUS:
He's the Puerto Rican Devil Rooster
And he will soon be here
He's the Puerto Rican Devil Rooster
He's the poultry we all fear
Watch your back 'cause he'll attack
You'll never hear him coming
Don't you bother with no holy water
At sunset you'd better start running
You must strive, try to survive
Until you see daybreak
He will flee, he'll try to leave
'Cause he has farmers to wake
CHORUS
