	Story Behind the Song We had just gotten back from our first meeting with Lewis Martinee and while he liked "Tonight I'm Yours" he wanted to see what else we could do. So we wrote two songs for our next meeting. Being told to "pick Lewis' brain" by the rest of the Pantera Management team, we figured that "Chains Off" would win them over. Nope. It was this. Now, keep in mind, that this was the most bizarre of tunes. It was written when Willie was driving over to Rick's house -- a long commute to West Dade from the Brickell Townhomes where Willie was working security after the two had graduated from Christopher Columbus High School. In traffic, Willie came up with the chorus. A silly verse about an archer -- who, naturally, is Cupid. At Rick's house, Rick began to lay chords around it and the two began to work verses into the song once Haydee arrived. Then it was off to Julio's house. Right? You've never head of it. Haydee had a friend who knew a guy who worked cheap 8-track demos out of his house in North Miami Beach. So, off we went, to record this in a den with Rick's beat-up Korg Poly-800 and his recent Yamaha DX-7 purchase. Julio had a drum machine. As you check this out, realize that this was all done in mostly first takes and without the later luxury of MC-500s to sequence and quantize the music. In short, Rick and Willie are off in spots. Haydee isn't always hitting the right note. If you're familiar with this song, knowing full well it was quite popular on many radio stations and a Club favorite -- peaking at #14 on Billboard's Club Play chart -- you'll probably enjoy hearing how raw this was. The male "Voices in Your Head" chant is spooky. The second verse? Same as the first. Again, we were poor, rushed and just flat-out excited to have the ears of Martinee. This song made us who we were, and, at least until I get enough emails from people saying how lousy this is, you get a glimpse into how we made the song that made us who we were.
