Story Behind the Song
This is a song i wrote and released on Girls of Stone. . . This recording is a really grooving one that we did on Dale Dudley's morning show on valentine's day. . . during a previous radio show with him, he asked me out. . . i brought him flowers this time around and we laughed about the awkwardness in the air . . . this song is fun and pretty and serious all rolled together. . . you might even be tappin your foot with this take.
Lyrics
i sit beneath this broken tree and wonder what he was to me
and what it takes to set him free, i cling to him so desperately
my tongue is swollen, thick with wine, and all i do is ask for time
to wander through my tangled mind and find the girl i left behind
(chorus)
i want to be the one to see the clarity of in between
this middle ground has got me blinded by a dream
i want to be the one to see
they say, “seek and you shall find,” i sought but i’m still reaching blind
i struggle through this tangled rhyme and make a mess of what’s inside
i show them who they want to see, they wear their blinders faithfully
we walk in clouds from factories and wear smiles of false sincerity
(chorus)
unveiling my uncertainty, a million wishes set me free
but here i am, i’ll always be, a victim of my own deceit
i lie beneath these broken dreams and wonder who i am to me
i guess it’s not so hard to leave his world of ambiguity
i’m faced with miles of empty time, only fools say fate is kind
i stare into my vacant eyes to find the girl i left behind
(chorus)
