Story Behind the Song
This song was born from lost trust, being disappointed by other people, and how to find one's way around that. This song was in the works for about a year. It was always about the highways of the heart. The lyrics went through several iterations as did the BGVs.
Lyrics
Turning from the dusty road that fades into the past,
Now the signs before me say that life has gone too fast.
But the future draws me closer, more filled with hope than fear.
And the loneliness that bound me disappears.
Highways of the heart can reach a place you’ve never been,
Destined for a warm embrace that only lives within.
And if wishes were the answer; reality, a dream,
Then You are the horizon I have seen.
Chorus
Please say that some day, say that some way life won’t be so hard.
And tell me when I lose my way, You’ll help me through the dark.
There’s no road to where I’ve been,
And I need a way to trust again.
Please help me build the highways of my heart.
Faith converging, love emerging, seems so far to go.
Miles of understanding, there’s so much I want to know
Of the heart that lives within me, the love that I once knew.
Now I’ve come to cross the highway reaching You.
Chorus
Bridge
Along the journey through this life, I’ve never felt alone.
I’ve always sensed Your gentle hand was guiding me along.
Now I know my destination, I will reach it very soon
Down the highways of my heart I’m seeing You, I see You.
Chorus 2
Please say that some day, say that some way life won’t be so hard.
And tell me when I lose my way, You’ll help me through the dark.
There’s no road to where I’ve been,
But you showed me how to trust again.
You helped me build the highways of my heart.
