Story Behind the Song
I wrote this in 1996 when the Internet was relatively new. I saw it as the new television, the new national drug. I was right, but of course it doesn't seem so profound now.
Lyrics
Flashing walls, waves of numb
Buzzing head, smiles on
Crackle blind, overload
Get in line, going home
What I see, what I need
Early morning fountain spray
Face and feeling stripped away
Face down in the static air
Broken glass is everywhere
What I see, what I need
I feel the vision, I feel the vision, I feel the vision
Take me away
Messages from outer space
Out of focus, hyper-pace
... Passive data entry
Pumping blood for half a century
What I see, what I need
And when the devil's day is done
He won't be missed by anyone
The new and improved household pet
Will catch us in the safety 'net
What I see, what I need
I feel the vision, I feel the vision, I feel the vision
Take me away
Flashing walls, waves of numb
Buzzing head, smiles on
Crackle blind, get in line
Get online
What I see, what I need
I feel the vision, I feel the vision, I feel the vision
Take me away
