Uptempo *and* contemplative (!) with a great chorus. Sounds a little like The Police.

    Story Behind the Song
There was a time in my life when I wondered if I would be able to be true to myself artistically and be in a relationship at the same time. I was going through a string of short-term relationships, "lessons" in the song.

    Lyrics
Lesson One, we're both having fun
But the deeper touch is kept out of reach
Lesson One, we're both moving on
But I'll learn and learn it all repeats

Lesson Two, I'm all over you
But a stroll down sand is not common ground
Lesson Two, it's all over now
But you know I'm here if you need me around

Can I live without love, would I love as I live?
Can I self re-create with a self that I give?
If only I can see the mark on the trees
I'll never find someone to walk with me

Lesson Three, the dance of ages
But I just can't see beyond the years
As you please, we're better this way
Got the space to face the music mirror

    Lesson Four, protected by distance
But the same sheepish line of hasty retreat
The inner voice, so static and cold
Don't compromise your mission with just anyone you meet

Can I live without love, would I love as I live?
Can I self re-create with a self that I give?
If only I can see the mark on the trees
I'll never find someone to walk with me
There's noone who can walk with me

    My feet won't fall
    Where my feet once fell
    Got a mating call
    But a rebel yell

Can't deny, I've got to be centered
Yet attuned to the moans of blood letting go
Guess that I'm condemned to surrender to the
    See-saw spin cycle lovercide of
    Lesson Five

Can I live without love, would I love as I live?
Can I self re-create with a self that I give?
If only I can see the mark on the trees
I'll never find someone to walk with me
So my path has been blazed by the brush of the muse
So I can't stay on track if I keep untying my shoes
If only I can see the mark on the trees
I'll never find someone to walk with me
There's noone who can walk with me
    There's noone who can walk
