Story Behind the Song
One day my brother called me up and said, "I thought
of a couple lines that might be good in a song. See what
you can do." So he gave them to me, and this is what
I came up with. It's a reminder to me that if you're not
careful, your ambitions can slip away, just like a pleasant dream.
Lyrics
Someone told me about happiness, but I don't know
So I threw it all away
Had an idea about happiness, but I did not know
But I knew it wouldn't stay
What a day it is today
Close the curtains and hide my face again
Change is coming soon, I know that it can
And I see no reason why
I must waive my duty to cover
Everybody wants me to fly
But all I want to do is hover
Someone told me about confidence, but I don't know
So I kept it to myself
Read a book to boost my confidence, though my hopes were low
It was written by someone else
What a day it is today
Build my hopes up and watch them fade to gray
We're one breath from solace, I will show you the way
And I see no reason why
I must waive my duty to cover
Everybody wants me to fly
But all I want to do is hover
I'll reserve my spot, I ought to save energy
Retain my fuel for emotion stability
No thought no plot no course of trajectory
Keep safe watch over everything that could be
And it could be
What a day it is today
All dressed up for the table to turn my way
But when that moment will come well you know I can't say
And I see no reason why
I must waive my duty to cover
Everybody wants me to fly
But all I want to do is hover
