Story Behind the Song
This song is a personal favorite, and is the biographical tale of my first marriage. It's perhaps my best lyrics to date and the chord changes are nice too. Interesting footnote is that the steel guitar featured prominently in this recording is in fact a Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer. A really nice and unique song.

Words

I remember seventeen, after school and you and me,
Writing secret letters and words,
Dating under summer trees, making out in '73,
Saying I love you in turns...
We were in love, like a couple of snow white doves,
Played with our lives with no concern,
And when we were wed, all we had were a few good friends,
Two little rings, and words...
And I remember twenty-one, living good and feeling strong,
Writing my music, and words,
Started with just you and me, then we had a family,
Life could be so easy we learned,
So went the days, like a flame through an empty page,
Living our lives on what we earned,
And heaven to me, was the love that we made so free,
A song and a home, and words...
Then we gree up oh so fast, and found those feelings didn't last,
Made us half-crazy and we burned,
Then it all went away, the wife the kids the happy days,
It didn't take much, just words...
And that's what it means, to have love and a page full of dreams,
You do what you can and then you learn,
Love is a game, made of hearts and the lives that you make,
Two little rings, and words... (repeat)
