    Story Behind the Song
"Shame" is the first song Death Before Disco ever recorded as a band. The song is obviously about a teenage prostitute. It was written in 1991 when Anthony was 20 and seemingly oblivious to a lot of the hardships that Generation X teenagers and the subsequent generation's youth are plagued with, and one student from the University of Pennsylvania went as far as to call the song sexist.

The original demo, recorded in 1992, was meant to be pop metal. It was given a grittier edge for its 1994 version on Concrete Jungle but lost the sound the song was meant to have. The version here was re-recorded by Anthony in July of 2001 with the unapologetic intention of making the song sound like a 1980's pop metal song. The majority of Concrete Jungle was meant to sound like this before the band decided to lean more toward alternative music.Ú

    Lyrics
Once you wanted to be somebody
Instead you gave into your fears
Now you're homeless with two kids to feed
And you've only been alive sixteen years
    I heard you're on crack
    So are your children
I heard you're selling it too
I can't blame you, this is the city
You say you ain't got nothin' better to do

    CHORUS
How can you live your life this way?
    Don't you have any shame?
No one will ever wipe away your tears
You've only go yourself to blame

Out again into the deep dark nioght
You can't tell me this is your fate
Night after night after painful night
Used and thrown away like a paper plate
No, I'm not in the mood for some "fun"
Please just get out of my way
Then again, here's some spare change
Buy yourself a Miller and call it a day

    CHORUS

You wanna change but you think it's too late
Besides, where will you find help?
Just remember... God will never give up on you
No matter how many times you give up on yourself

    CHORUS
