Story Behind the Song
In old movies made in the 1950's, especially westerns, they didn't have the technology to film night scenes. So they shot the night scenes in broad daylight and used filters to make the scenes darker. This "twilight" effect is what I imagine death to be like... where even a sunny day is part of the night. When I'm gone, this song will be for me and those who must share that long night...
Lyrics
The Long Night
(C)2001, J. Eshleman,II BMI
I lie in the shadows of the long night, and talk to the moon in the trees,
I walk to the waters that give up no life, and talk with the man in the sea,
Oh,oh,oh, we longed to be free, from pain and the fear of the flight,
Oh,oh,oh, this song is for me, and those who must share the long night...
I speak to the meadows and breath with the wind, and cherish old memory divine,
For here we began, and here we begin, the exodus plays here tonight,
Oh,oh,oh, we longed to be free, from hate and the vengence of light,
Oh,oh,oh, this song is for me, and those who must share the long night...
They say there's a place for the resting of men, where burdens fall gently as snow,
Do little to wonder as you reach the edge, just pick up your dreams when you go,
Oh,oh,oh, we longed to be free, from pain and the fear of the flight,
Oh,oh,oh, this song is for me, and those who must share the long night...
Those who must share the long night..
