Story Behind the Song
The lyrics refer to a friend of ours that we had a slight tiff with at the time it was written...he was in a punk band called "The Chronics" and said a few things about us, so we rallied back with our own self-proclaiming anthem, hence the "Chronics' out" line.....ain't it fun? We're all friends again though. The "annie sue" line was put in for Nick's mom who was having a problem with someone at her work named Annie Sue when this was being written, so he put that in for her.
Lyrics
We'll open for your band, we'll finally get our name out, well f*ck that! We're well known, and your power chord bullsh*t just won't go. The crowd's hype, we'll rock this with jams so tight you can't stop this. No schlock rock, it's our sound, straight up ounce for ounce we're gonna motherf*ckin' rock this....
{Chorus}
89 Butterfly's on the motherf*ckin' fly, motherf*ckin' fly....
Don't confuse us with any motherf*ckin' punk band, you know we can jam, we take the stage, stay stay stay away!
It's our show so we let go, givin' motherf*ckers a piece of us to take home; so just stand by and get high off the funky-ass wisdom from the 8-9! So ya just sit there that blank stare and wonder why the garden we tend still stands....
Chorus
F*ck you Annie Sue!
Straight up ounce for ounce, pound for pound, we're gonna motherf*ckin' rock this (out) x2.5, 89 is in, Chronics' out.
We'll plead no contest to kickin' yer ass, with sounds so phat make a piggy run fast! It's no schlock rock, it's our sound straight up ounce for ounce and pound for pound! So why you sit back and wonder why you get yer ass kicked by 89 Butterfly? Just sit there with that blank stare and wonder why the garden we tend still stands....
