Distinctly bright, yet darkly serious ... Xyra hits it off rhythmically, with acoustic/electric guitar. Bret Empie strikes an acute balance on MIDI harpsichord, while Norman Thorne and Larry Lawrence hold a thoroughly upbeat stance, with Andrew Cann on piano. Elements of surprise hold true, as Eric Ulreich plays astounding guitar solos akin to those Mick Ronson played when he was with David Bowie's Spiders From Mars. | MP3.com CD: XYRA ... Story Behind the Song
In the process or writing a series of songs, including 'My Captain,' Xyra was still profoundly touched by the story of Captain McVay and the USS Indianapolis.
Siren in the Water was perhaps written from a siren's perspective. Helpless, she watches the horrors unfold, knowing it was not she who beckoned them to their deaths at sea.
Lyrics
In your heart of love
Lost on the horizon
Time spent, unaware
I thought that I would find you
Stand with me
Tell me you can find me
In this state of mind
Nothing should elude me
Chorus:
All the gray, this sad day
Turns to fire, self-contained
I remain a siren in the water
Souls are waning here
Waiting for the slaughter
Words of many men
Wiser than the other
Mother, I am here
Smarter than my father
Stand with me
Tell me you can find me
In this state of mind
Nothing should elude me
Chorus 2:
Inner realm, time inside me
Never let the outer forces harm me
Ruined caveat, turning water
Souls are waning, here
Waiting for the slaughter
(Repeat 1st verse and chorus)
