Story Behind the Song
With this song, I wanted to write a no-nonsense blues number with all of the classic blues attributes. Of course, it still came out with more melodic devices than John Lee would have preferred, but that's just my style. I wrote it in an afternoon and this recording was cut live, except for the vocals, at SIR in Hollywood.
Lyrics
Foolish Love
(c) 2001 by William Jennings House
I've always loved you,
Since I was three.
No one before you,
You're the only one for me!
In every lesson,
Even today.
You're my obsession,
what more can I say?
Cause I've got it bad,
Bad as a love can be!
Have mercy up above,
I'm crazy for your Foolish Love.
You are so sweet,
When you're at home.
But, out on the street,
They're telling me I'm not alone.
Every bus driver
Is driving you around.
Uptown, downtown,
Honey child, you get around!
Baby, I'm mad,
Mad as a boy can be!
Have mercy up above,
I'm crazy for your Foolish Love.
(bridge)
It's crime,
And it's sin,
The way you lie
And the state I'm in!
And, when the reaper
Finally comes around,
There's gonna be some sorrow,
Over what you're laying down!
Talking 'bout your Foolish Love...
Wrote you a letter,
To tell the truth,
Let you know better
That my love's a love for you.
You said Honey
You are so sweet
Gimme some more money
And then you hit the street
Baby I'm bad,
Bad as a boy can be!
Have mercy up above,
I'm crazy for your Foolish Love.
