Story Behind the Song
This was written many years ago during my New Orleans days, another song that Susan Mack and I used to perform acoustically. This full version features the wonderful voices of Mauritanians, Mohamed Cisse and Ablaye Dieng, along with some beautiful guitar work by Brian Corkill.
Lyrics
Tango down the isle of the late show
To the sound of the xylophone and the wooden drums
Flutes sing a silver melody freely
So dance with the night 'till the night's no more
Sing, sing all the songs
Play guitars 'till you can't play no more
Mask like robb ers and kings
Drink the wine that the magic brings.
Oh yeah, it's the festival of good life
For the children of all men under every star
Oh yeah, it's the festival of freedom
In the east, in the west too, all around the world
Ring, ring all the bells
Pl a y the drums 'till you can't play no more
Dance from the streets to the sea
Swim in the water by the mango tree
Carnival
Carnival
Carnival
Carnival of people is how you live
The festival of freedom is what you give
No hate when we celebrate, no time to f ig ht
No guns when we dance in the golden light
Spring moon casts a golden light on us
Warm water next to white sand and the dolphins swim
People in the little towns
People on the mountain side everywhere growing tall and wild
Paint, paint all the scen es
Pu sh your brush 'till you can't push no more
Color all the people you see
From the rainbow's end undeniably
Carnival
Carnival
Carnival
Carnival of people is how you live
The festival of freedom is what you give
No hate when we celebrate, no time to f i gh t
No guns when we dance in the golden light
