Story Behind the Song
I wrote the basic music for this song years ago in New Orleans. The lyrics were seriously reworked in my Arizona desert studio. It has a stronger allusion to the creative process and stuff that is difficult to put into words. The recording is quite org anic with no programming. After several tries, I found the percussion and samples to create the basic canvas. Then the "guitar painters" started adding all of the colors. First, Dave found the jazzy figure that is played with a clean Strat sound. H e sparked the ending with what he called his George Benson style playing. Brian then added the beautiful smooth sustained solos.tÊ
Lyrics
Take a look out through my window
Tell me what there is to see today
I am blind unless you speak to me
About the words of William Shakespeare
About the ways of Buddha
About hidden temples carved in stone
In the city of ancient Petra
Dance with me under t he stage lights
Your silhouette is like Tchaikovsky's swan
I can't move unless you lead the way
In time to Coltrane's Love Supreme
And Jobim's bossa novas
In time to all the sacred chants
From the heights of the Himalayas
(Chorus) Inspiration is a pract i ced thing
Fantasy on the prowl
In the shower it makes you sing sing sing
Then it's gone with a dampened towel
Illuminate the shadows of my soul
Help me feel the pulse that joins our hearts
Let's write songs that speak in every tongue
About connection s to our past
About the unknown future
About the ways to love this earth
Strong like the raging river
(Chorus)
(Ending) walk the wilds
and improvise
fantasy and quiet steps
imagination
for snow drift days
