Story Behind the Song
I wrote this as an entry for a songwriting competition. The idea was to write a song to help stop child abuse and the winning song would be used as a national campaign theme. This won honorable mention, and despite the fact that it din't win, I'm still proud of it.
Lyrics
Turn Around
(C)2001, J. Eshleman, II BMKI
There's a little bit of you walking around,
A little bit of you wearing a frown,
When that little bit of you is crying, turn around...
There's a little bit of you wearing your face,
A little bit of you that can't be replaced,
When that little bit of you says "I love you", turn around
Turn around, listen to yourself for a change,
Turn around, this is you when you were that age,
Turn around, don't you want to be there for this child ?
Turn around, tiny hearts can never pretend,
Turn around, have the strength to be a friend,
Turn around, turn around, turn around...
There's a little bit of you that's growing fast,
A little bit of you that has to last,
When that little bit of you says they need you, turn around...
There's a little bit of you that don't understand,
A little bit of you that just needs a hand,
There's a little bit of you in this child, turn around...
Turn around, tell them we get angry sometimes,
Turn around, show 'em that your love is alive,
Turn around, don't you want to be there for this child ?
Turn around, you can make the difference and then,
Turn around, it will all come back in the end,
Turn around, turn around, turn turn turn...
And maybe someday...
There'll be another bit of you walking around,
Another bit of you so little and proud,
Aren't you glad you stopped to say "I love you" ?
Turn around (love is a circle),
Turn around (love is a circle),
Turn around (love is a circle),
Turn around, etc
