Story Behind the Song
A girlfriend of mine once showed me a picture of her running along a beach in Spain. That was the inspiration for this song.
Lyrics
Nights In Madrid
(C)2001, J. Eshleman, II BMI
Flowing waters, a sailing tide, I know, it's time,
The rising sun, a bird on wing, I hear, the cry,
And if they said I had to live, a thousand years
It's the wonder of it all, that I would fear,
So I set my sail again for an eastern sky,
I know, it's time, on a dream I start to fly...
Golden ladies, bake in the sun, it's warm, they say,
Barcelona days are so clear they will lead, you astray,
And though the ocean's always been, a lover to me
There's a woman waiting there, and there I should be,
She's as restless as the wind, her spirit so high, she's as free,
As the the sky, on her love I know I can fly...
Spain is reaching out for me, she always did,
Always reaching out for me,
Days of wonder, night in Madrid...
Pardon me, I'm a lost and drifting soul on the open sea,
And I sail to thee, to the love of my dreams,
Far away though it seems,
When my heart's in despair,
I know she will be there, Spain
