Story Behind the Song
This song is sort of a resume, in fact the lines starting flowing when I was supposed to be writing a resume. I was reminded of a conversation I had with my band buddy, Bruce Johnson about world class vs. pretty damn good and we agreed we leaned toward the pretty damn good type, either because we were lazy or just liked to get on with other things. BJ, thanks for the hook.
Lyrics
Pretty Damn Good
Verse 1:
No Ph.D. after my name, and I'll
Never make it to the Hall of Fame, but
Momma still loves me just the same, cause I'm
"Pretty Damn Good!"
Don't want to be the best of all, won't
Bang my head against the wall, just
Want to be better than y'all, cause that's
"Pretty Damn Good!"
Chorus:
I'm "Pretty Damn Good" at quitin' time, and
Not to shy to say that I'm
"Pretty Damn Good" at mostly all I do, I'm
"Pretty Damn Good" at havin' fun, and
When my damn good day is done, I'm
"Pretty Damn Good" at lovin' too.
Verse 2:
I play my guitar fairly well, at
Least it ain't the sound from hell, I
Even got my own clientele, cause I'm
"Pretty Damn Good!"
My singin's not the best I know,
'Specially if the key's too low, and I
Sure could use some vibrato, but I'm
"Pretty Damn Good!"
Chorus
Verse 3:
To be world class is not my goal, nor
Be in this year's Super Bowl, I
Just like my ol' special role, of
"Pretty Damn Good!"
But don't think I ain't out to win, cause I
Find my strength from deep within, and I'm
Still the best I've ever been, cause I'm
"Pretty Damn Good!"
Chorus, Tag and Out
