	Story Behind the Song An ancient country, the Burmese Kingdom existed as long ago as the 5th century B.C., with a capital near present day Mandalay. Since that time, it has had a varied and checquered history. Even before the dawn of Christianity, Burma had a succession of 50 monarchs of a single line. Gamelan is not used in Burma, but similar percussion instruments are.
