Lyrics
The Settlement, by Thomas E. (Ted) Preisser, 06/04/01 (Copyright 2001, Franklin Circle Music)
I wanted something from her
From somewhere deep inside.
She looked as though I wasn’t there.
I had no place to hide.
It really sort of scared me
I didn’t know I had gone.
She bent her head, took her leave,
And made her way across the lawn.
A settlement’s there on the horizon.
The signs of life abound.
But the closer you get to the place,
you see,
You’re seeing barren ground.
She opened the door to her Chevy
Got in and pushed back the seat.
Put on her shades and looked in the mirror
To affirm her hair was neat.
She turned the key and turned to me
Then slowly turned away.
The car moved off, and so’d the Sun,
And drew the blinds to stay.
A settlement’s there on the horizon.
The signs of life abound.
But the closer you get to the place,
you see,
There’s nobody around.
Life is like that, yes it is,
The wise will tell you so.
It’s not the destination counts,
But the path you choose to go.
The one I walked was right, I thought,
Least it seemed so easy to see.
Now I’ll look long before I step
‘Cause the pace is set by me.
A settlement’s there on the horizon.
The signs of life abound.
But the closer you get to the place,
you see,
There’s nobody around.
