So many people have dreams or aspirations but few have the balls to actually live them. This song is about just going for it! |

Story Behind the Song
I started playing the acoustic guitar after moving from the US to Ireland. Since then Ive toured all around Ireland & the UK but Ive always dreamt of going back to my roots and tour the US. I guess Ive always considered the US as the musicians mecca.
Angel, the character in the song is an actress on her way to her mecca, Hollywood. Shes gonna make it no matter what anyone says. I guess she represents me, going to tour America.
The song was originally written in altered tuning: BGDGBD to achieve a nice low bass line. This is how I perform it live. However, in the studio with a band, it
sounded cluttered so I just strummed the chords in standard tuning and let the bass and Gavins electric do the rest.
I think we recorded it in one take with just two overdubs: the main vocal and the electric guitar in the middle eight.
Lyrics
Angel hit the open road chasing her dream
Shes gonna be the sweetheart of the silver screen
Gonna swim that great black river cross the land
In the myst on the window she formulates her plan.
White lines blur at 1200 miles
She sees her reflection and checks her smile
Burning bridges wasnt so hard
Remembering what her daddy said when he told her girl, you gotta work so hard.
Work so hard to earn that reward.
One day shes gonna realise that dream
She can already see her name in those neon lights.
Can you see those lights?
400 miles left to go then start the show
Shes got her names, there on her list, shes in the know
Gonna wake up and wipe her eyes on Sunset Boulevard
Shes gonna make it man, shell be a big star
A big, big star.
Queen of the silver screen
Just like Norma Jean
Angel hit the open road chasing her dream.
