SOL 113

Release Date: August 21, 2001
Compact Disc Only
Limited Edition of 500
Nick Parkin's latest release, "Geomorphic Resonance", on Soleilmoon Recordings, is an intense evocation of geological processes, glacial movement and erosion. Parkin realises his unique concept of sonic geology through the use of manipulatied field recordings and treated instrumental textures, conjuring up an imaginary land wrought by ice, wind and water. Densely textured compositions convey the harsh edge of nature's forces.
Since 1985 Parkin, who lives and works in Great Britain, has created works embracing painting, live performance, film and sound. Much of his work has centered on his ongoing investigation of land, and the elemental forces that shape it. He has created works as a performance artist for site-specific locations and theatres in Spain, Italy, Wales and Switzerland. Since 1993 he has worked exclusively as a composer/musician, creating more than ten releases on CD, as well as undertaking numerous commissions for major dance and theatre companies. He recently completed an MA in elctroacoustic music at University of East Anglia, and in 2001 he was awarded the pretigious first pricze at Bourges' international electroacoustic music competition for his compolstion "Magmas".
"Geomorphic Resonance" is being issued simultaneously with "Entropolis" (Soleilmoon Recordings SOL 112 CD). Both releases are strictly limited to 500 copies. An earlier release, "Island of Dust" (SOL 81 CD) is still available.
