Story Behind the Song
Confederate Dollar was conceived and written by Brett Ralph in the countryside of Northwestern Kentucky. The song draws inspiration from regional pride and the economics of the reconstruction. The arrangement was developed in collaboration with core members Jeff Eller and Paul Aarstad. Additional musicians on the session were Kelly Salmon of Cadiz, KY on third guitar, Jenny Filmer of Springfield, MO on violin and vocal, and Pete Townsend of Louisville, KY on drums. Recording the basic track required numerous retakes in an un-air-conditioned farmhouse on a sweltering June day in 1998.
