Story Behind the Song
This is a short story of a girl who dreams
of leaving home. When she finally does, she
can't wait to get back. It's basically the
story of when I left home. I grew up in
Southern Louisiana,Cajun country, where
everyone is family, things moves a little
slower, and someone always has something good
cooking on the stove. The love for my Dad.
The song was written riding along the back
roads of the wine country in Northern
California where we now live.
It took about 15 minutes to write, and about
a day to record.
Lyrics
Ever since she was a little bitty girl
Said "Daddy I'm gonna see the big, big world."
Live in the city and let my heart roam
He said "Don't be silly, this will always be home.
When the day came that she finally went away
He knew in his heart that she really wouldn't stay
His little bitty girl with her big, big dream
Swimmin like a salmon up stream.
(Chorus)
She's leaving home, after 19 years
She's leaving home, she didn't shed no tears
Didn't take her long, to pack her bags and leave
She's leaving home
Now Daddy won't see her til Christmas Eve.
Well she lived in the city and she got a good job
The people weren't nice and the streets were always mobbed
This didn't add up, it wasn't her dream
How she longed for the country and a cool water stream
She missed her Daddy with his big, big heart
All the nice people and her dog named Bart
She knew now country was in her heart to stay
A country girl, always that way
She's gone home, she's been so far away
She's gone home, and now she's back to stay
She didn't stray far, from her cornerstone
Things will never be the same, so she packed up all her things
Lord you know she's going home.
Here Bart
(repeat 2nd chorus)
