Story Behind the Song
I dunno.....the melody came to me one night when i was playing the piano and i had my poor tape recorder running.....i actually have the recording of me writing the melody. i don't remember writing the lyrics really, but i think they're prolly some of the most meaningful I've ever written. we recorded it in the Happy All the Time sessions in my living room. my sister's best friend lauren supplied the viola. my only regret is the song seems to suggest that a girl being pretty is what life is and that's not the case at all, and being young is not what life is either. Being free is what life is, and true freedom comes from Christ. That's what I mean, and I didn't totally eloquently say it in the song, and I'm sorry, but I'm still very very proud of the song. Hope ya likey.
Lyrics
In car and drivin
the sun is shinin
the road is beckoning
today
today we run away
come sit beside me
i'll drive you ride,
we pass houses, trees, and fields
come on
there's nothing in our way
come on,
it's time to steal away
look out your window
this has no end, no
no one can stop us as we fly
right now we feel so alive
a little faster
i push the gas,
you look over at me
you're so pretty
i know
that this is what life is
right now complete and total bliss
oh
they think they know what's best for us, they tell us what to do but we've got to find out for ourselves.
He shook my hand and wished me well
come on let's go
i'm sick of tryin
to keep from cryin
when bad things happen
get caught in a trap and I can't take it anymore
the complications of a life that's so restricting let's throw them off and run run run as far as we can,
we're never comin back
we're free now
and we're not comin back
come on.
