Story Behind the Song
In 10th grade I wrote a poem called "A Reluctant Ode to Death." Skip ahead 6 or 7 months, I was trying to find the inspiration for my next poem, and I came across that poem collecting (figurative) dust on my computer, and it all came together. The poem is about how we waste time worrying about unimporant things while our lives pass us by. I know, it's pretty depressing, but it ends good, you've got to admit that. OK, maybe you don't HAVE to, but you should.
Lyrics
VERSE 1
Life is full of waiting
For a chance to make a mark
But with all our hesitating
We're just waiting in the dark
VERSE 2
Innocence is fleeting
We have everything to lose
All we have is choices, but
It doesn't matter what we choose
CHORUS
We live on borrowed dreams
It's never as it seems
Our lives are wasted time
This song is useless rhyme
VERSE 3
The brain is overrated
Though we think it makes us free
We contemplate our fortunes
While we await mortality
VERSE 4
Time has greater meaning
When you’re close to having none
If we could see it clearer
We’d be happy when we’re done
