Story Behind the Song
This song came together pretty quickly when Tim and Lance Ransom, a member of Tim's old band "Soul Attic" got together and wrote both having idea's about the direction of the song right away. B.E. Began playing it and made a couple of slight changes but for the most part kept the song intact. It's one of the few slower song's this band does and it really gives everyone in the band a break for a while to kinda calm things down, get some people onto the dance floor, and sometimes even get some people to think (doesn't happen that often though) :) Anyhow, I won't go into detail about what the song means because the lyrics tell the story pretty well.
Lyrics
She carries her things likes she's indisposed cause her life ain't that perfect, well, don't ya know she's a rebel, but she's got a cause.
Left home on bad terms at age thirteen with a backpack on hand and a streak of mean, don't ya know, she's a girl that can't go wrong.
Maybe she'll be in your town, pick her up don't let her down, she's the girl next door.
Met a guy off second street that would take her in he said, "listen here baby it's sink or swim" she knew, it had to be better than this.
The corner was crowded, the money insane, but her happiness never, in never came this time, she's the girl with a chance.
Took a bus, to Charlston Town, never blinked, or made a sound, she's the girl with a chance.
Ten years go by things have come and gone, had two little babies, she never did wrong this time, she's the girl with a chance.
Now if you look down that street to the neon light, she'll be right there she'll be by your side this time, she used her chance.
Took a bus to Charlston town, never blinked, or made a sound she's the girl next door. She's the girl next door.
