Story Behind the Song
I was motivated to write this, like many of my other songs, from observations of my friends who have struggled with "demons" of their own making and have sought out relief through the use of substances.
Lyrics
Float away--the river drowns my pain.
Behind closed eyes, I lose my mind.
Drifting--I hope that you don't follow
into my vein, the burden of my sorrow.
Cracking up like a wall against a hammer,
Breaking holes right through me.
The barren empty spaces where my blood and heart should be,
Entropy is filling in, where my sense of order used to be.
Building up from the ground, I am found.
Rising up like a phoenix from the flame.
Bleach through the needle makes everything like new again,
The burning inside of me is the fountain of my blues.
Float away, surrender to my vein.
I lean back and I lose my mind.
Drifting, I hope that you don't follow
into my vein, the burden of my sorrow.
