Story Behind the Song
I wrote this about a 19-year-old (or so) waitress I used to lust over during my drives up and down the 101.
Lyrics
I met her at a HoJo’s, the Los Osos exit, Highway 101
I was looking for a plate of greasy food, no to have some fun
She offered me a menu and a seat, she said her name was Laurie
I knew that she was my kind of woman, I know the fauna from the flora
The fauna from the flora
I told her I was moving to LA, was going to be an actor
She said “oh really,” and my heart went “phhhh” like a nuclear reactor
She asked me what I wanted and I must confess my eyes addressed her
I ordered a Poly Sampler and a Jumbo Nachos, that’ll really impress her
Yeah, that really impressed her
It took my ‘bout an hour to eat my lunch, you see, my mind had turned to lumber
I said “goodbye, God bless you,” but I didn’t even ask for her phone number
You see, I’ve met a lot of girls like her in LA, San Francisco and Gloccamora
But when I’m on the road and feeling lonely, I still think of Laurie
I still think of Laurie
