Story Behind the Song
Lisa was driving her 1976 Saab, trying to make it home from a gig when the car decided to finally give it up and die. But it didn't that evening--instead the car went 30 mph for the 20 miles she needed to go. Needless to say, it took a while. Listening to some new music ideas, she wrote most of the song at red lights, and finished it at home hours later. Recorded at Oz Studios, Baltimore, MD.
Lyrics
I remember how the wind felt as we raced along the highway in the night
I thought my heart stopped beating when you pulled me close and held me tight.
And I knew that it was wrong, but I felt that it was oh, so right
and I knew that it was you and only you who'd stay by my side.
And you said
Baby,
Baby if you love me,
let's take the long way,
the Long Way Home.
Was it something I was dreaming, or just a drug my friends call Love
somehow I equated every moment with heaven above
when I looked into your eyes I lost what little common sense I had
was it something that I wanted, that I needed to keep from going mad?
And you said
Baby,
Baby if you love me,
let's take the long way,
the Long Way Home.
We got for hours...
we got forever
and I have never, ever, ever felt like this before...
let's take the Long Way Home.
Time has gone so fast
but look how our love lasts--
you mean so much to me I hope you believe when I say
Baby,
Baby if you love me,
let's take the long way,
the Long Way Home.
We got for hours...
we got forever
and I have never, ever, ever felt like this before...
let's take the Long Way Home.
