Story Behind the Song
The impetus was Alec's long-distance relationship with his girlfriend, who had neither a fax machine nor a computer at the time. It's the thought that counts. It was composed at his girlfriend's place in California. The melody took about 5 minutes to write, but the bubble-gum lyrics didn't come immediately. This song was the first tune to be fully-completed for the cd. The note progressions of the dual harmonies are a little unique, but seemed to fit the song pretty well.
Lyrics
I belong to you.
You belong to me.
No matter how far away you are,
I'll be close to you, dear.
I still love you,
And that's the way it should be.
Baby, I'm here all alone.
Please, hang up the phone.
I couldn't forget you,
Even though you've been gone for a year.
Turn your modem on,
Here's a message from me.
I'm faxing a love song to you,
In case you were feelin' we're through.
A letter's too slow.
I want you to know,
I'm faxing a love song to you.
I'm faxing a love song to you,
And wonderin' if you miss me too.
It's simple and short,
I need your support.
I'm faxing a love song to you.
Though we are a million miles apart,
Can't you hear the beating of my heart?
And I tell you, tenderly,
You're the only girl for me.
That's why I want you to get,
Off the Internet.
I've written a little tune,
Guaranteed to brighten your day.
Give your mouse a click,
And read my bouquet.
I'm faxing a love song to you.
I'm usin' the words lovers do.
I didn't have time,
To make it all rhyme.
I'm faxing a love song to you.
I'm faxing a love song to you.
You won't hear the music, it's true.
Paul Simon it's not,
But, it's all that I've got.
I'm faxing a love song to you.
I'll be waiting here for your reply.
And, I'm hopin' I am still your guy.
I don't need no Valentine,
I just want your love on line.
