Story Behind the Song
This is basically an odd arangement of the song, or ayre (pronounced "air") written by the Eglish composer John Dowland, probably during the last decade of the sixteenth century. Dowland was the most famous lutenist and composer of ayres at that time, and his songs were immensely popular all over Europe.
