Story Behind the Song
Originally a slow sad song about death. Of course things changed once the band got a hold of it. Then the lyrics changed to fit the music.
It ended up sounding very much like a sea-shanty or a drinking song. So to add to that effect, we went to a local bar in Tucson, AZ and had everyone in the bar sing along.
Lyrics
When you wake up and you're dead,
and the voice inside your head, screaming, "no one", now it's already gone
When the demons they try to trail you,
and recognition fails you, don't be alarmed,
that it's already gone.
"Step to and fro, beware the rows,"
said the drunken captain speaking slowly through his nose.
So open up our sails, and beat the old front gales,
sent up two flares in the the salty air,
lay awake and watch the trails.
It's already time for leaving,
good time girls have come and gone.
When you wake up nd you're dead,
and the voice inside your head - screaming, "no one",
It's already gone.
Don't send flowers no,
relax your mind and go -
And lay into the galley, lay it in boys, lay it in.
It's already time for leaving,
(and) now the make-shift into light... (hey)
Ya da da, da da, da da...
