Story Behind the Song
The music for this one had been around for a long time before the song was finished. It had a different groove, melody lines and lyrics. While Drummer Matt Russell and then Bass player Mike Powers were playing a groove before a rehearsal started, Matt realized the music would fit around the groove. Ruth Peterson wrote new lyrics and melodies and before long it became the song, 'Out of My Hands'.
Lyrics
Came as a surprise, a smile when I, expected nothing, Is this the way, is this the right way, the water feels so warm, like I want it to be, I think I'll let myself in, completely
Open the door, and let me in, this might be wrong, but it's out of my hands...
Even in this light, I see differences, you would say the air was cool and there's a soft breeze blowing, I would swear it's raining, folding pedals gently down, it was the same day, who would believe us
Open the door, and let me in, this might be wrong, but it's out of my hands...
Somehow I can see both sides, corners slowly turning your not wrong, and neither am I, this moment holds us both, and then pushes me and floating into you
Open the door, and let me in, this might be wrong, but it's out of my hands...
