Inspired by "Tom O'Bedlam", by Robert Silverberg. This little ditty (25 minutes in length) is a musical visualization of a vision the character Elszabet experiences when she is apparently contacted by denizens of "The Greeen World". Read the dream, listen to the music, hear her name, Elszabet, joyously called in three ascending notes.

    Story Behind the Song
When I read Tom O'Bedlam, I was taken by the music I read in the book, the music referred to constantly throughout the story. I heard shadows of melodies as I progressed through it, but it wasn't until I reached the character, Elszabets's vision of another world that I realized my "hearing" was similar to what she was experiencing. It started out with references to the occupants of the dream calling her name. Three ascending notes. I played them on the keyboards in my studio. Then I started to play the dream as it was told in the book. The initial contact. The invitation. The calling. The joining. Two or three passes through and I had the root track recorded live to tape. (I still didn't have a sequencer so everything on this piece is "live"). I didn't realize until the first track was finished that I had recorded for 25 minutes. This meant that the succeeding 8 or 9 tracks were each going to be the same length. Not counting the practice runs and out-takes, this means 4 to 5 hours of recorded performance. The process took two to three days.

As with my other works, this was all recorded on analog tape, so playing this piece at a loud level will reveal the underlying tape hiss. Do yourself a favor... don't hurt yourself. It's not worth the extra volume.
