Story Behind the Song
I love that old Motown sound. Sam Cooke and Van Morrison were really big inspirations for this song, as well as Steely Dan. OK, Steely Dan isn't exactly Motown, but they borrowed a lot of elements of that sound, particularily the horn ideas and phrasing from all those songs. I believe it's called "blue-eyed soul"
It's a sound that has kind of gotten lost in the shuffle of the Brittneys and Bizkits, who are two different sides of the same coin as far as I'm concerned. You just don't hear too many songs like this getting airplay anymore, at least where I live. The way I look at it, if you don't like the music that's out there, write some music that you do like! So that's what I did. :)
Lyrics
Hey the baby
Do you ever think of me when I'm gone
Hey there baby
Do you ever think of me when I'm gone
Well you're always restin' on my mind
Your heart shines to me like a gold mine
Hey there baby
Do you ever think of me when I'm gone
Hey there blue eyes
Isn't it a shame
Hey there blue eyes
Isn't it a shame
Well we all look in the mirror
For something to blame
If things were different
They wouldn't be the same
Hey there blue eyes
Isn't it a shame
Hey there baby
I'll find a way to your heart
Hey there baby
I'll find a way to your heart
With a little bit o' romance
And a whole lotta soul
But your body still loves to
Rock and roll
Hey there baby
I'll find a way to your heart
Hey there baby
I'll find a way to your heart
