Story Behind the Song
The St.Petersburg Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra is the string ensemble of the combined forces of both the old St.Petersburg Philharmonic and the Academic Symphony Orchestra.
Its fantastic players are working together since many years and are one of the very finest chamber orchestras in the world.
Countless recordings and tours all over the world give ample proof of its capbilities in performing of the well known and lesser known repertoire of 18th to 20th century music for strings
The St,Petersburg String Playing has a long and colourful tradition. Teachers as Leopold Auer (his most famous students were Jascha Heifetz and Nathan Milstein) began in the late 19th Century and developed this amazingly strong education. It is based on very clever use of bow technique and fingering and was always aiming at very strong and dark instrumental sound, beautifully rounded and fullbodied. It has lasted like this to this very day and the recording of this great ensemble show, what russian string playing still distinguish from the rest of the world, especially when it comes to romantic music.
This recording is result of an especially inspired and musically rewarding work between the Conductor and the Russian Orchestra
