Lyrics I had grown so comfortable in that rut where I was living But somehow I just could not make a change But the Lord had the answer and he was forthcoming He sent the water and carried me away THE WATER, LORD THE WATER IT CAME QUICK AND LEFT NOT A TRACE OH THE WATER, THE MUDDY WATER THE WATER CAME AND CARRIED ME AWAY Well it rained and it rained for ten days straight and my patience had reached saturation but we never expected the river rose so fast We grabbed what we could and we ran out the door Well at first I was in a state of depression because I had lost all my worldly possessions but when I hit the raod with a much lighter load I realized just how much I had gained Well in the end I got the last laugh in when I drove on back to what muddy rim and threw in a few more things I didn't really want and when I got done I sat down for a smoke and laughed so hard I almost choked as I watched those old tax records just flooting away
