    Story Behind the Song
When I was young I would have to run to keep up with my dad, but I loved going to work with him because he taught me so much about life. Happy Father's Day. I love you, daddy. My daughter Rebecca is featured in this song.

    Lyrics
    Walk a little slower daddy

Walk a little slower daddy I’m following you
Walking in your footsteps trying to do what you do
Walk a little slower daddy hold my hand
Take me with you show me how to be a man

I’ll never forget when I was young
My dad was strong and I was proud to be his son
He was the model of what I wanted to be myself
And I would jump to his side when he asked me to help
We would jump in the van and ride
Dad would start humming and drive Dayton’s West Side
He made sure to point out the liquor store
And all the guys hanging out before they even opened the doors
He warned me of the sin of addiction
And taught more lessons that I can remember or mention
He taught me to work hard, and put in my time
But he would work so quick that I would fall behind
His legs were long, and he walked so fast
I would run to catch up, reach out and ask

Walk a little slower daddy, I’m following you
Walking in your footsteps trying to do what you do
Walk a little slower daddy I’ve got so many questions
Talk to me help me learn life’s lessons

He was nothing but a boy trying to be a man
His name was Isaac, and his father Abraham
His parents had been childless for years
God’s promise of his coming brought laughter and tears
But the day of his arrival was filled with joy
Abraham told everyone “Now that’s my boy!”
Abraham took Isaac every where he went
Told him he was promised by God and heaven sent
One day Abraham lead Isaac in the wilderness, but
He walked so fast Isaac could hardly keep up
Said “We’re going to offer a sacrifice to God
Isaac asked “With out a sacrificial lamb wont that be hard.”
“God will proved himself a sacrifice, son
and with tears in his eyes Abraham walk on

Walk a little slower daddy I’m following you
Walking in your footsteps trying to do what you do
Walk a little slower daddy and teach me this
To trust that God keeps and holds promises
He was a bade in a manger, meek and mild
Yet he had the power of his father even as a child
He constantly talked to his father in prayer
His father taught him how to love to serve and care
His father taught him to forgive and heal with ease
At his baptism he said “This is my son in whom I’m well pleased
But not everyone cared although he loved them
The same ones that rejected his father also rejected him
He said “I’m just following my father. They called him a liar
“I’m the way” They said “Who do you think you are the Messiah?”
They snatched him up and they beat him down
Gave him a cross and made him carry it through the crowed town
They hung him on the cross, a world gone mad
Jesus cried out when he lost sight of his dad

Walk a little slower daddy I’m following you
Walking in your footsteps trying to do what you do
Walk a little slower daddy. Teach me above
How to live to die and to do it for love

Well now that little boy running with his daddy is grown
And ready or not I’ve got a little boy of my own
When I need help raising him into a man
I look to my father, Father God, and Father Abraham
I try to follow their examples, cuz you can bet
Right behind me is my son walking in my footsteps
With my hand in his I’m a show him the way
And I’ll slow down a little bit when I hear his say

Walk a little slower daddy I’m following you
Walking in your footsteps trying to do what you do
Walk a little slower daddy by the time I’m grown
I’ll understand God’s love and how to pass it on.
