Story Behind the Song
I love the city of Las Vegas. Or really I should say, I loved it. I do have a real problem with impulse control and not knowing when enough is enough. On one early trip I took to Vegas, I lost $500 in a matter of mere minutes; like eight minutes at one blackjack table. That same night I went out to a strip club while I was dating a girl back home, and never even thought twice about it. Quite a few lines in the story ring very true, but a few others explain more of the feel of the song I was going for; and that is the feeling of helplessness one with a lack of implies control feels when they are tempted. And by tempted, I don’t’ mean just by Vegas, but anything alluring.
This is another one of those songs that went through three sets of lyrics before I settled on what you’re hearing right now. All of them had a similar story, but none seemed to flow as well in the three parts as the one I’ve got now. The first generation actually had scenes of blackjack tables and strip clubs in it, but it sounded more like an MTV made for TV video tune than an actual song. I took out the scenes and left it to real lyrics to tell the story.
The song was a musical nightmare to me as I got real deep into the production of it, but after taking a good two week break from it, it started to gel and now it’s one of the songs I’m most proud of. I especially love tom’s hooks in it. He’s a singer I’ve always admired and was excited to get him onto one of my tunes.
Lyrics
21 Days ago on the 21st day of the month I hopped a plane
sick of the pain the chains, all I really needed was just a little change
‘Cause I wanted to escape here wait dear
I’ve got a plan for sand and an escape where
No on cares if you wanna have a good time
Drinkin’ ale and beer and all the free wine
I swear you know
For a buck you can even get a pep show
But that’s cheap the peeps are just a glimpse
Of what can happen with a town full of pimps
Nevermind the time you spent bettin’
Ain’t it funny how you feel yourself getting’
Into the spirit, I feel it, it’s callin’
Into the mood I feel myself fallin’
Vegas, come on and take us for a ride
Vegas, you amaze us every night
Sin lives there
And no one seems to care
On the 21st floor room 21
I feel lucky and I wanna go get some
I hit the tables where I’m able to count some
I’m havin’ fun win a ton on a good run
I gotta go though don’t’ wanna get caught
Onto the next place where I still play hot
21, 21, stick at 12
The dealer busts I’m playin’ so damn well
Off to the craps table now
I’m on the dice and the girlies all say wow
He’s hot a winner and so rich
I think I spot myself tonight’s little bitch
Blonde hair blue eyes and five foot four
I hope to God she’s not just a little whore
Here we go, you a ho, she said no
But after dinner she promised me a little blow
Vegas, come on and take us for a ride
Vegas, you amaze us every night
Sin lives there
And no one seems to care
On the 21st hour day 21
I’m feelin’ dirty where my morals I got none
I’ve been cheatin’ and lyin I feel sick
Every girl in this town’s done seen my dick
I won cash spent more and I’m broke
What is this the devil’s damn little joke
Sin, temptation all around, and dumb me I scooped it up by the pound
Self restraint probably would have been a little nice
My complaint’s that I never even thought it twice
Indulged went deep and way over
The depths of hell couldn’t’ even bring me any lower
O-Kay, I blew it, I knew it
It’s addicting I’m addicted so screw it
I cant’ blame the city you see
It’s my fault I can only blame me
Vegas, come on and take us for a ride
Vegas, you amaze us every night
Elvis lives there
And no one seems to care
The King’s alive
And we seen him
Playin’ Blackjack
In casinos
Don’t believe me
Come to Vegas
And you’ll all see
It’s outrageous
