Lyrics
There was a time when the heavens were so close to the earth that men could not walk, but were forced to crawl underneath. This was considered a great burden until, at length someone had an idea.
It was decided that the heavens should be elevated to a more suitable height.
The one to bring this about summoned up his utmost energy and by this effort drove the heavens up to the height of a teve plant.
There he rested, until refreshed, when with an enormous strain he raised them to the height of a kauariki tree.
A third push and the heavens were elevated to the summits of the mountains, where they rested for some time.
Finally another attempt put them where presently they reside.
For this great deed the benefactor was considered a liberator of mankind - The Elevator of the Heavens.
- Polynesian Legend
The universe originally arose out of chaos when Indra /Vishnu separated heaven from earth.
The sun itself arose from that same spot and a great pillar was erected to maintain the separation of heaven and earth.
- Rig Veda
Chaos was like a hens egg. Neither heaven nor earth existed. Pan-ku was born from this egg, whilst Earth was formed from its heavier element, Sky was formed from the lighter ones.
For 18,000 years the gap between Earth and Sky widen at a daily rate of ten feet. Pan-ku grew too, filling the gap that was formed.
When he died all of the natural element s were formed from his body. His body fleas became the human race. The connection between Earth and Heaven was both good and bad, the toing and froing in between caused confusion between gods and men with no proper order for sacrifices. So Chuag Hu ordered ordered that communications be broken off..
