Story Behind the Song
A "lost puppy" is someone that follows you around and won't go away---which sounded like a good idea for a song.
At the time when Airborne was starting out, Billy K. was getting out of a metal band, but really wanted to do surf---but essentially, considering the available musicians---the choices were to either go disco, or go mellow album rock. He chose the latter.
So Airborne was started as a mellow FM rock band--as in the Fleetwood Mac/Dave Mason/
Orleans/Eagles/etc. There were some surf-oriented songs slightly tailored towards this
format(as in "Girls Can't Read Your Mind")
But some also some new compositions were
specifically written in this style---including "Valerie"(which was released) and "Lost Puppy".
When Airborne disintegrated into a duo, with extra help, became Ursa Minor. "Lost Puppy"
was recorded for the second album("Marina Green")sessions.
This was a first take, with NO OVERDUBS(please note the flubbed lyrics). But the
take does have enough energy to stand on it's own. (Note: this is from a 2-track copy;
the whereabouts of the original 16-track master is unknown, and therefore unable to redub the vocals).
This song has been presented, as a historical/collectors item for Airborne/Ursa Minor/Billy K. fans.
