	Story Behind the Song Based on the Hadjaz maqam, a festive Balkan melody for dancing with the Torah at Simchat Torah, the holiday celebrating the never-ending cycle of Torah study. Flory Jagoda recalls her childhood in Sarajevo when she and the other children, dressed in their new clothes, would gather flowers before coming to synagogue so they could decorate the Torah with blossoms. They would wish each other "Buenus Anyus" (a good year) and return home to fruit pies made with honey (for a sweet year) and cherries or apples (for a good year). Note the 7/8 meter. Compound time signatures such as the 7/8 in "Simhat Tora" are as common in Near Eastern music as they are rare in Western music.
