Wrote this about watching people deteriorate and not being able to do anything about it, a very frustrating feeling... |

Story Behind the Song
Several occasions I have tried to help friends, family, people I care about, with either simple decisions, good advice or life paths... based on common sense, life experience and logic. I have developed a theory in these attempts that you can't give someone a brain - they will turn you down every time. In light of this, the only option is to wait, watch people fall, dive, and find a place to die. Depressing, yes, but hey... that's reality.
The first and second verses encrypt imagery of bloody sidewalks, suicides, broken promises, and fatally self-inflicted prison on an individual level. The chorus tells you it doesn't matter what basket you stock your eggs in, you might as well give up anyway. Even more depressing. The third verse is about the same set of inflictions across the entire human race and the state of the world as a result. Also a bit encrypted...
Lyrics
Mud stained sidewalks
Blood stained sky
Spoken promises
Broken bones to sanctify
Waves come crashing
Through prison walls
Like dead rose petals
I watch them fall
One by one they fall
The numbness slowly sets in
Like the slumber of the dead
So find a place
A place to place your bets in
Find a place to lay your head
Lay your head
Pictures fading
To shades of white
The music ends as slowly
As wrong fades into right
Day fades into night
The numbness slowly sets in
Like the slumber of the dead
So find a place
A place to place your bets in
Find a place to lay your head
Lay your head
Lay your head
Lay your head
The numbness slowly sets in
Like the slumber of the dead
So find a place
A place to place your bets in
Find a place to lay your head
The numbness slowly sets in
Like the slumber of the dead
So find a place
A place to place your bets in
Find a place to lay your head
Lay your head
Lay your head
Lay your head
Lay your head
