Jazz/rock instrumental featuring piano,
guitar and sax solos. This is the short version
that placed in the top five original jazz
compositions in a St. Louis songwriting
competition. 3 minutes, 21 seconds. |
Credits: Jon Pardue (piano/composer), Roger Priest (sax), Tony Thomas (guitar), Lynn Calwell (bass), Phil Rizzuto (drums). Engineered by Mike Graham at SoundSmith Studio, Indianapolis. |
Story Behind the Song
Originally in waltz time, the feel changed
several times over a period of several months.
The fourth incarnation (hence the title) came
about when I started playing the lead line out
of the blue during a quintet gig. The other guys
came in one at a time in the order you hear in
this version, and the jam lasted nearly 20
minutes. This version was recorded live in
the studio in one take, with a time limit of
3 minutes and 30 seconds for inclusion in a
music contest.
