Story Behind the Song
5 guitars and one bass. No keyboards.
Recorded with just one take per track
during a single session on 30 Aug 98. Also:
there are some vocals and a Gatorade bottle
used as a percussion instrument, although
that might not be until later in the song.
This makes awesome driving music. Makes it
seem like you're piloting a spaceship rather
than driving a car. (of course, you need the
full 45-min. version for the full effect.)
Lyrics
"Wasted time in wasted space. With the
changing of the seasons come forth states of
perception to carve our destined path. The
sun guides... An ancient explorer. The
Overseer. The source of all life/light/hope.
A marvelous spectacle as we peer through the
pinpricks. WE call it life. SOME call it
hell. OTHERS bask in its glory. A F***in'
Superstar!! Defecation of the fittest, if you
ask me. Ahhh yes, the wonders of the
imagination. Feeding and thriving just to
get by. Day by day, night by night. It's a
struggle in itself. In a grey surrounding,
there is hope for black and white. 'The weak
ones are there to justify the strong,' as
quoted by the Rev. Piss on the Grave and Shit
in the Ass of the Opressor. Let thy sword
probe thy anus with conviction, and just a
jiggle. Let the psycho-acoustical guitars
run through the veins to nourish the soul.
Release the beast from the cave. He will
once again spread his wrath throughout the
land. The trees will shed and the ground
will harden. But the song, always and
forever, shall remain the same..." -Mike Mann
This poem(?) was included on the back of the
original 'Wasted Time in Wasted Space' CD.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with the
musical piece (in a programmatic sense), Matt
felt it was the wierdest thing he ever read,
so naturally it would go nicely with his
wierdest composition to date.
