Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired by a beautiful summer night and no one around to share it.
The song was written in 1978. It took about 10 minutes to write and 20 years to record. It was one of those songs that is left undone for many years.
However, it worked out well and is now one of my favorites.
Lyrics
SOUTHERN NIGHTS
Southern night are lonely, when your one and only lover,
Says goodbye to you.
Another night is only, filled with lots of lonely memories,
Of when we were together.
CH 1
So you look around, hoping to find
Someone who, will love you and treat you tenderly.
And all the while your waiting, anticipating
She'll come back to where she belongs.
CH 2
The right time is anytime, you feel alone
Just call me I'll be waiting by the phone.
Southern nights are lonely, when your one and only lover
Says goodbye to you.
Southern nights are lonely, the moon and stars are only
There to make you feel alone.
Repeat CH 1
